Germanic

Letterpress

Brief
While studying in Germany, the university's incredible letterpress facilities provided a unique opportunity for hands-on typographic experimentation.

At the same time, while learning German, I aimed to create a project that incorporated elements of my language studies.
Solution
Delving into the Germanic language tree, I was intrigued by the similarities between English and German, and the shared history behind these connections.

To express this visually, I used letterpress – a technique deeply rooted in Germanic history – to layer the subtle variations in English spellings of Germanic words over their German counterparts. The result highlights both the linguistic similarities and the evolution of the two languages.
