Brief
In the UK, there is a taboo and divide surrounding labour unions, with only 7.5% of private-sector workers under 30 being union members.

I interviewed Martin Wogido, a chairman in the UK’s largest labour union, to learn more about this issue. He identified key barriers, including unions being seen as radical, a lack of open discussion, perceived risks of joining, limited time, insufficient information, and language barriers.
Solution
Based this first-hand research, I developed a mobile app designed to rebrand unions in a fresh, user-friendly way for young adults. The app has to be simple, accessible and focused on connecting users to the right union for their needs while providing a streamlined space for unions to communicate and make decisions effectively.

Key attributes of the app include ease of use, a positive and welcoming design, and a non-partisan approach to ensure trust and reassurance. The visual identity is centred on the concept of a ‘shift’.
